Information technology at the Port of Koper

Luka Koper can realise its vision of development only through optimisation of its business processes, in which an efficient, and at the same time simple information system will play an important role.

Luka Koper adopted a strategic decision, that of complete outsourcing of its informatics to the company Actual d.o.o. With this new partnership, the company Luka Koper was able to achieve predictability of expenses, a clearly defined functionality and measurability of the operations of the information system.

The information system of Luka Koper is composed of over 20 subsystems, interconnected to provide complete logistic support and linkage to partners. The system is currently being modernised, which includes a radical reduction in the number of subsystems and their standardisation.

In addition to modernisation of the node for electronic transfer of data, a process for consolidation of the computer and server infrastructure has been initiated. A major part will, from now on be based on Intel's platform together with the server and office application infrastructure of the company Microsoft. The consolidation process is being implemented gradually so as not to disturb business processes, which operate continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Among the most important overhaul projects for application solutions are the following two which influence the basic processes of the company's operations:

• Cosmos – an application which is used by the PC Container terminal
• Tino (marketing and operations) has replaced key applications on “mainframe” computers. The system is based on the framework of Microsoft .NET. Its operation includes establishing connections to various subsystems and background business information systems, based on software applications of the SAP company.
