Agreement signed with Port Klang

Representatives of Luka Koper have just returned from a business trip to Asia, where in Kuala-Lumpur on Monday 6th November 2006, Mr Aldo Babič, Vice President of the Luka Koper Management Board, signed an agreement with Port Klang, the largest port in Malaysia, and 13th biggest in the world. The main objective of this co-operation agreement is to enhance the identity of both Koper and Klang as gateways to their respective hinterland markets. As a result of a direct service between Klang and Koper, which provides extremely favourable transit time - a mere 17 days sailing - as well as competitive rates, we expect a significant increase in trade between the ports - in the order of some 100,000 containers per annum by 2010 - in particular as a result of servicing the neighbouring markets of Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

In addition, the agreement anticipates close co-operation between Luka Koper and Port Klang in a number of other areas, such as; education, exchange of information as to technical and safety solutions for ports, exchange of information as to traffic through both ports, etc. The first actual fruit of the agreed co-operation shall be the participation of Luka Koper at the Asian logistics forum organised by Port Klang, which presides over the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH). The forum will be attended by the representatives of logistics companies from all over Southeast Asia. Further to this, a visit of a Malaysian delegation to Koper has already been scheduled for May 2007.
