On the 1st of November 2007 the president of the Management Board of Luka Koper, Mr. Robert Časar and his deputy, Mr. Aldo Babič, M.Sc., hosted high representatives of the South Korean company POSCO leaded by Mr. Yoonom Sukmanom. The company POSCO is the third largest steel manufacturer in the world. It was established in 1968 in the South Korean city of Pohang and produces about 30 million tons of steel products per year.
This year three Korean companies (POSCO, Daewoo Logistics in Daewoo International) established together with Luka Koper the company POS-ESDC in the Port of Koper which will develop a European distribution centre in Koper and Sežana for steel products destined for Central and Eastern European manufacturing operations. This year already 100,000 tons of steel products were handled in Koper on this account, where for the next year the mark of 250,000 tons is expected.
