"Koper is the most efficient port in the Northern Adriatic"

On Wednesday October 16th, at the Grand Hotel Bernardin near Portorož on Slovenia’s Mediterranean Riviera, the French shipping company CMA CGM, one of the largest in the world, celebrated the tenth anniversary of its Phoenician Express direct container service, which links the Far East with the ports of the Northern Adriatic, Koper included.

The principal guest at the event was Mr Stephane Courquin, Vice President of the CMA CGM Group, who honoured Luka Koper by marking the event in Slovenia. The media, and in particular Koper-Capodistria TV and Primorske Novice, took the opportunity to interview Mr Courquin who commented: "Koper is the most efficient port in the Northern Adriatic" adding that "we want to see the port develop further, but we need your help in relation to seabed dredging and the provision of such infrastructure that will allow the arrival of large vessels."

The Phoenician Express service calls at Rijeka, Trieste and Koper, hence the representatives of other Northern Adriatic container terminal operators also participated at the event. Upon this occasion, Luka Koper's Management Board President Gašpar Gašpar Mišič thanked the French guest for his company’s trust and the years of business partnership. According to the number of TEUs handled, CMA CGM is Luka Koper’s second largest partner.

In September, the CMA CGM Group marked yet another important milestone in its history, namely the 35th anniversary of its establishment. Today CMA CGM is the world’s third largest container shipping company, and last year it shipped 10.6 million TEUs. The CMA CGM fleet is comprised of 414 vessels, 11 of which are large container vessels with the capacity from 8,500 to 16,000 TEUs.
