st year, over 24 million tons of goods were handled in the port of Koper. Growth was recorded on practically all commodity groups; only on the liquid cargo segment registered a slight decrease. Despite the increase of the total throughput, the trend of less berthed vessels  per year continues. We counted 1.903 vessels in 2018 or 92 less than the year before, which means that ships were on average larger and with more cargo. The modal split remains favourable in favour of rail, where 62 % of goods to / from the inland markets were transported by trains. At the container terminal this ratio was exactly 50:50. In 2018 we introduced, together with our business partners, several new block-train services, joining the vast network of railway connections from Koper to destionations around Europe. The latest railway services were introduced for Austria (Linz), Germany (Muenchen) and Prague (Melnik). On average, on the container terminal, there are 13 departures/arrivals daily, which makes 80 – 90 trains per week.
