Vice president of the Management Board Mr. Tomaž Martin Jamnik and Director of Container and Ro-Ro terminal Mr. Marko Babič visited the regional office of the Danish container ship-owner Maersk Line in Algeciras in Spain.
Talks were going on concerning the situation on the container terminal in Koper and regarding plans for the future. The representatives of the Koper Port pointed out the improvement on the terminal especially on the segment of cargo dispatch. Saturation of the terminal, as a consequence of the season-peak and the summer strike has decreased on the acceptable level, which enable expected productivity on all working sites. We increased also the number of daily loaded and dispatched trains. Koper representatives presented our activities to improve container terminal performance by investing in additional stacking areas and new equipment, as well as on the field of human resources. Both counterparts agreed that Maersk Line will provide valuable and timely information to Koper to facilitate planning and investment activities.
Representatives of Maersk Line positively judged the efforts and plans of Koper Port and pointed out readiness of stronger business collaboration also in the future including services employing vessels of more than 8.500 TEU capacities, which would require dredging of navigation channels. Indeed, with its fleet of 6,500 TEU post-panamax vessels, Maersk Line provides a direct weekly container service between Koper and the Far East.
Danish Maersk Line is the biggest container ship-owner in the world. On the same time is a longstanding partner of Luka Koper and is, according to the container throughput, every year at the top from all container ship-owners coming to Koper.
