Welcome to Koper, opening the doors to Slovenia.

In 2005, Koper made its mark on the global map of cruise ship ports. Alongside the development of the cruise terminal — which received its final modern form this year — the city also began to rapidly expand its tourist offerings aimed at cruise ship passengers.
Passengers from the first cruise ship, Minerva II, which docked here on April 28, 2005, had the opportunity to explore Koper and take excursions to the Postojna Cave, Lipica, Bled, and Venice. Today, the selection of local and Slovenian day-trip destinations is more diverse than ever, as cruise tourism has brought together tourism providers from all over Slovenia.

To mark the 20th anniversary of cruise tourism in Koper, we have collaborated with the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Koper Institute for Youth, Culture, and Tourism to open an outdoor photo exhibition at the Luka Koper Gallery. The exhibition features the work of local photographer Jaka Ivančič, showcasing the most iconic tourist attractions from Slovenia, Slovenian Istria, and the Karst region — the places cruise passengers most often visit.

All journeys begin in Koper and lead to unforgettable Slovenian experiences.

Town of Koper

Koper, a picturesque Slovenian port city, is where Venetian elegance meets the warmth of the Adriatic and the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Once an island, today a lively coastal town, it still welcomes you through Muda Gate – the only preserved city gate, once connected to the mainland by a bridge. The spirit of the Mediterranean lives here year-round: in lively squares, artisan boutiques, charming cafés, and local spots where the coastal way of life is felt in every moment. Enjoy a coffee at Slovenia’s oldest café, overlooking the central square, Titov trg, and take in the Venetian flair with views of the magnificent Praetorian Palace and the majestic Cathedral of the Assumption. Climb the 54-meter bell tower and enjoy sweeping views that stretch all the way to the green countryside, where vineyards and olive groves invite you to taste the authentic flavors of Istria.
