The Presidents were received by Gorazd Jamnik, Member of the Management Board of Luka Koper d.d., who emphasised that Slovakia is an important business partner of the Port of Koper. According to estimates, annual cargo throughput between Slovakia and the Port of Koper totals between 1.7 and 1.9 million tonnes of various goods. Each year, Koper handles around 134,000 TEUs, 80,000 vehicles, and more than 320,000 tonnes of general cargo, mainly steel products, for the Slovak market, making it one of the most important ports in the container and automotive segments.

The Management Board member briefed the guests on the port’s ongoing infrastructure projects and future development plans, which will further strengthen Koper’s role as a logistical bridge between Central and Eastern Europe and the rest of the world.
The main focus of the visit was on enhancing cooperation in logistics and the automotive industry.

Slovenian President Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar emphasised that Slovenia seeks to see more Slovenian companies integrated into Slovak industrial value chains and more Slovak partners involved in Slovenian development projects, particularly in the fields of smart logistics and green mobility. She noted that the visit to the Port of Koper carries symbolic significance, as the port connects not only the physical flow of goods, but also strategic partnerships across Central and South‑Eastern Europe.

“I appreciate that during my official visit we found the time to meet here, at the Port of Koper, in Slovenia, which ranks as Slovakia’s third most important inland partner. The Port of Koper is our gateway to the East and represents a key logistical hub, as a significant volume of goods passes through this port: over 130,000 containers, more than 80,000 vehicles per year, and over 300,000 tonnes of other cargo. These capacities will continue to grow. I also commend the decision of the Slovenian government to invest in the second railway track, which will further enhance rail transport capacity,” said Slovak President Peter Pellegrini during the visit.

Slovenia and Slovakia continue to record stable growth in bilateral trade, which in 2024 reached EUR 1.48 billion, representing a 5.1% increase compared to the previous year. During the visit, the two presidents also underlined the importance of connecting companies from both countries, particularly in areas where existing logistics routes can be upgraded to enable a more efficient flow of goods.
