The Car Terminal has long been one of Luka Koper’s flagship operations and is of strategic importance to Slovenia. Growth in vehicle throughput is therefore essential for supporting the country’s continued economic development. To increase storage capacity for vehicles, our Company will expand the existing parking garage, adding space for an additional 11,665 cars. The contractor will commence preparatory work immediately after the contract signing, with construction expected to begin this autumn.
In Phase 2b, construction is planned for a facility covering 177,811 square meters, with a capacity of 9,374 vehicles, while Phase 2c foresees an additional 48,600 square meters, providing storage space for just under 2,300 vehicles. The building’s main structure will consist of reinforced concrete slabs supported by columns founded on piles. The garage will comprise five covered levels plus a rooftop, which will also serve as an additional storage area for vehicles. The facility will be equipped with energy-efficient lighting and 30 charging stations for electric vehicles. For enhanced safety, an active fire protection system (sprinkler system) will be installed in the garage, ensuring early detection and response in the event of a fire, as well as additional protection through automatic activation to contain the spread until firefighters arrive.
The contract was signed on behalf of Luka Koper, d.d. by Nevenka Kržan, President of the Management Board, and Gregor Belič, Member of the Management Board, and on behalf of the contractors Kolektor Koling d.d. and its partner PRO-CONCRETE d.o.o. by mag. Marko Trampuž, Director of Kolektor Koling.

“At Luka Koper, we continually invest in development projects that bring long-term benefits to both our partners and the wider community. The added storage capacity will provide more space for vehicles, improving efficiency, processes, and overall safety at the Car Terminal. The expansion of the parking garage is undoubtedly an important step towards greater competitiveness and further strengthening our position on Europe’s automotive logistics map,” emphasized Nevenka Kržan, President of the Management Board of Luka Koper, at the conclusion of the signing.
Numerous investments from the extensive investment cycle launched two years ago are already underway, among them the most significant in recent years – the extension of the northern part of Pier I. The works are being carried out by Kolektor Koling Inženiring, instalacije, proizvodnja d.o.o., in partnership with CGP d.d., družba za gradbeništvo, inženiring, proizvodnjo in vzdrževanje cest.
“In the past, we have successfully completed a number of key projects that have played a crucial role in the development of the Port of Koper. We are proud to once again collaborate on the port’s major infrastructure investments and sincerely grateful for the continued trust. Today’s contract signing further strengthens our partnership and reaffirms our shared vision of growth, which we value greatly. We are fully committed to delivering the project with high quality and within the agreed timeframe,” said mag. Marko Trampuž, Director of Kolektor Koling d.o.o., at the signing ceremony.
That Luka Koper continues to adapt to market conditions and further consolidates its position as one of Europe’s leading automotive terminals is also confirmed by the recently completed new storage area with capacity for 3,500 vehicles, which has now been put into operation. In addition, later this year development will begin on the so-called “Cassette 7A” area, located behind Basin III, which will provide storage for an additional 3,000 vehicles upon completion.
