The President of the Management Board of the Port of Koper, Nevenka Kržan, also considers this an important milestone, especially in light of the uncertainty and tensions currently present in global trade and, consequently, in maritime logistics: “At the Port of Koper, we are aware that precisely in these uncertain times we must seek out and capitalize on new business opportunities, while at the same time maintaining a reliable service that has for years strengthened our position as one of the most important ports in the region. If we wish to remain competitive in global maritime transport, we must also strive for development-oriented projects.” She congratulated all employees whose work upholds the reputation of the most important container terminal in the Adriatic.
Expanding port capacity remains one of the Port of Koper’s top priorities. The northern extension of the Pier I is therefore underway, bringing new quay structures with two additional berths totalling 326 metres in length, as well as seven hectares of new storage and handling areas. The first phase of this technically and financially demanding project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Once all planned investments are implemented, the terminal’s total capacity will reach 1.8 million TEU per year.
