Construction work is set to begin within a month. Until the completion of the Sermin access road at the end of 2026, reconstruction of the Bertoška access road will be carried out in a way that minimizes disruptions to freight and local traffic. During the reconstruction of the roundabouts along Bertoška access road, freight traffic will already be redirected to the new Sermin access route.

The project, valued at just under EUR 24 million, includes the expansion of the 1.6‑kilometer Bertoška access road in Koper into a four-lane thoroughfare, as well as the integration of the national cycling route, the Parenzana, with the expanded access road. The works will take place over 20 months, and as noted by DARS President Andrej Ribič, the company will make every effort to ensure the project proceeds without delays.

The upcoming start of construction on the new road was welcomed by Minister of Infrastructure Alenka Bratušek and Mayor of the Municipality of Koper Aleš Bržan, who stated: “For the people of Koper, the Bertoška access road means less traffic congestion, more opportunities for economic development, new jobs, and ultimately a higher quality of life for the community.”

On this occasion, Luka Koper’s President of the Management Board Nevenka Kržan emphasized that the Bertoška access road, together with the Sermin access route, represents a key transport link connecting the Port of Koper to the motorway network: “We are fully aware that the planned development of the port and logistics cannot be achieved without adequate infrastructure. Alongside the new railway line and the Sermin access road, both expected to be operational by the end of the year, the expansion of the Bertoška access road is of crucial importance, as it will significantly ease traffic pressure on the city and its surroundings.”
