Marseille hosted on 27th June 2018 the constituent General Assembly of MEDports association. The founding members of the new Association are currently 20 port authorities of 10 countries from both sides of the Mediteranean: Spain (Algeciras, Barcelona, Puertos de Estado, Tarragona, Valenciaport), France (Bastia, Marseille Fos, Toulon), Italy (Civitavecchia, Venezia), Slovenia (Luka Koper), Malta (Malta Freeport), Algeria (Arzew, Bejaia, Skikda, Serport), Lebanon (Beirut), Egypt (Damietta), Tunisia (Tunisian national ports Autority) and Morocco (Tanger Med). The aim of the new Association is to establish a reinforced operational cooperation area in the Mediterranean within a long-term structure, and to share the common ambition: to give to Mediterranean ports an increased visibility upon the global maritime transport.

At the general assembly, Christine Cabau was elected president of 11 members Executive Committee, one of them is also a representative of Luka Koper. The members have created six technical committees which will focus on training and maritime expertise, sustainability, security and safety, relations with international institutions, statistics and market analysis, and also on smart port, in order to collectively act on common issues, share expertise and best practices.

The head office of the Association will be located in Marseille.
