At 219 meters in length and with a maximum capacity of 9,200 vehicles, the BYD Shenzhen, launched this year, is officially the largest RO-RO (roll-on/roll-off) car carrier in the world. It is also the largest among the next-generation car carriers powered by alternative fuels and one of the first to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) in combination with a battery-hybrid propulsion system. This advanced technology enables up to 25% lower CO₂ emissions, up to 85% less NOₓ emissions, and almost complete elimination of sulphur oxides (SOₓ) and particulate matter. Another major advantage is the quieter operation of its engines which reduces noise in ports and minimizes the impact on the marine environment.

The ship’s LNG tanks are made from special materials resistant to extremely low temperatures (LNG is cooled to about –162°C) and are carefully integrated into the ship’s structure, ensuring safe and efficient fuel use during long-distance voyages.
