With the arrival of the first cruise ship from Viking Cruises, which will visit Koper 12 more times this year, a new season of cruise ship arrivals is officially open. The Viking Saturn arrived from Zadar and is scheduled to depart at 6 p.m. today, continuing its journey toward Venice. The next cruise ship arrivals are scheduled for March, when the Viking Star will visit us on March 21, followed by the smaller Star Legend with 300 passengers on March 28.
Following four ship arrivals in April, May will bring as many as 11 cruise calls, marking the start of the peak cruise tourism season. According to current plans, passengers will by then be welcomed in the newly built Passenger Terminal building. We expect a total of 75 cruise ship arrivals this season, bringing approximately 115,000 passengers to Koper. The number of visitors will be even higher, as we need to add more than 55,000 crew members. Last year remains the record for the number of passengers, with a total of 125,000 on 73 ships. Additionally, in September of last year, we welcomed the 1,000th cruise ship since the beginning of cruise tourism in Koper, and September 2023 also recorded a milestone with the arrival of the millionth guest.
This year’s cruise season in Koper will conclude on November 2 with the arrival of the Viking Sea, a vessel operated by the same operator that is today launching the new season.
