On Friday, 8th October, 86-member delegation of honorary consuls of the Republic of Slovenia from all over the world visited Luka Koper. A two-day meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was aimed at the presentation of Slovenia and this country’s economy as well as enhancing the existing and establishing new contacts with the representatives of Slovenian state authorities, industry and commerce.

The consuls were presented Luka Koper with a special focus on the investments anticipated in the forthcoming years. The guests demonstrated a strong interest and at the end of the meeting the representatives of the Mediterranean and the Far East countries expressed interest in closer collaboration with Luka Koper.

The consuls were also addressed by the Management Board President Dragomič Matič: “Luka Koper enjoys an excellent geostrategic location, a fact that most consuls are already familiar with. We established contact with some of them years ago upon their first visit to Luka Koper. Considering the interest demonstrated today we expect new concrete business deals due to the fact that majority of today’s guests are from the economic sector.”

Honorary consuls are increasingly important part of economic diplomacy. Indeed they enhance the interests of this county’s economy, promote Slovenia and its potentials in the field of economic collaboration and foreign investments and have a fundamental role in opening the doors to the Slovenian companies abroad. They are also active in the cultural, political and humanitarian fields.
