Due to the planned trip of the government and economic delegation to Vietnam, Indonesia and South Korea, the focus of the discussion was mainly on the activities of Luka Koper in the markets of the Far East.

During her working visit, the Minister met with the company’s management. The talks focused mainly on the preparation of the activities of the Slovenian economic delegation that will travel to Vietnam and South Korea in the coming days and weeks, where Luka Koper will also be actively involved. The representatives of the company informed the delegation about the activities conducted by Luka Koper in the markets of the Far East, as they represent a great potential for the port of Koper and Slovenian logistics in general.

As the Minister pointed out, economic diplomacy is one of the priority areas of Slovenian foreign policy, focusing on supporting Slovenian companies in penetrating new markets. Approximately 65% of the containers handled at the Port of Koper originate from or travel to the countries of the Far East, which represent key overseas markets and an opportunity to attract new flows of goods. One of the most important markets in this region is South Korea, for which around 1.4 million tonnes of goods are handled annually, mainly related to the automotive and electronics industries, and we also have two weekly container services to South Korea. Vietnam also offers great potential, but a direct container link with Slovenia and the hinterland countries would be needed sooner to increase trade flows. It is crucial for the Port of Koper to continue to promote itself on the Vietnamese market and to highlight the logistics opportunities and the Slovenian transport route through the Port of Koper.

As Boštjan Napast, President of the Management Board of the Port of Koper pointed out on this occasion, the main competitive advantage of the Port of Koper is its shorter, and thus greener transport route compared to Northern European ports, as well as its traditionally high-quality service for business customers.
