The terminal for oil products, previously known as petroleum terminal, began to operate in November 1968.

It was built by the companies Luka Koper and Petrol, the construction lasted about a year. Luka Koper deepened the seabed, set up the embankment and built the berth for oil tankers. Petrol Ljubljana, on the other hand, built the oil reservoirs in Sermin and equipped them with pumping devices required for unloading the product from tankers into the oil reservoirs and from there to the railway wagons. Already in the first year of operation, 128,466 tonnes of oil were unloaded from tankers.
