Luka Koper Supervisory Board Supports Ecopark Project

22.07.2008

At its regular meeting of 21st July 2008, the Luka Koper d.d. Supervisory Board lent its support to the establishment of the Ecopark enterprise, which will manage an area at the periphery of the Port of Koper for use by companies engaged in the generation of energy from renewable and alternative sources.
The members of the Supervisory Board also gave their consent to the creation of Eco Morje, an enterprise that will take over Luka Koper’s marine protection services within the port itself. The new enterprise, which will be in 100% ownership of Luka Koper, will also undertake three mandatory public service concessions on a commercial basis, namely, protection of the coastline and coastal waters, collection of wastes and refuse from vessels using the port, as well as the maintenance of navigation and shipping facilities. The decision to establish Eco Morje came about by the need to rationalize and improve resources in the aforementioned fields, as well as to lower costs in the expectation of obtaining a concession to manage all of Slovenia’s coastal waters.
At this its last meeting before the holiday season, the Supervisory Board was familiarized with the concession contract proposed by the Republic of Slovenia for the operation, management and development of the Port of Koper. Further to this the Board recommended that the shareholders endorse ratification of the concession agreement at the upcoming AGM.
