Representatives of the Ministry of Transport, the authorities of the Saudi ports, investors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Saudi Embassy in Vienna and others were welcomed by Dimitrij Zadel, President of the Port of Koper, and in the opening greetings by the Mayor of Koper, Aleš Bržan. The Saudi delegation was headed by Muneer M. Bin Saad, Vice-President of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, the guests asked a number of in-depth questions, mainly focused on further business orientation and spatial development of the Port of Koper, the ownership structure, the technical characteristics of the port, the construction of a second railway track and the possibilities for investments in the Koper port and Slovenian logistics, which is one of the foundations for the planned cooperation of Saudi Arabia with Slovenia.

In 2018 Port of Koper transhipped for Saudi Arabia mainly exports of various general cargo (iron products, pipes, rods, sheet metal in reels), wood and goods in containers and liquid cargo in imports. The Port of Koper is currently connected with Saudi Arabia by two direct container shipping lines, namely King Abdulah with 2M Alliance and Jeddah with Ocean Alliance in export.
